Five taps to your first beer

No password. No email gate. Tell Barley what you usually like, see what your participating brewery has on tap that matches.

  1. 1

What styles do you usually drink?

Tap a few — Hazy IPAs, lagers, stouts, sours, wheat beers — or 'I'm not sure.' Honesty beats expertise; Barley adapts.

  2. 2

    What flavors do you like?

Citrus, tropical, crisp, malty, coffee, sour, sweet, dry. The more you tap, the sharper the first recommendation.

  3. 3

    What do you avoid?

Too bitter, too sweet, too heavy, too sour, high ABV. Barley respects what you don't want as much as what you do.

  4. 4

    Where are you drinking?

Pick a participating brewery near you, or browse the network. Barley pulls the live tap list and starts ranking.

  5. 5

What you actually use Barley for

  • Find your next beer

Best match, familiar, adventurous, staff favorite — four ways to pick, all from your taste profile.

  • Track every pour

Your visit history, ratings, and flavor notes — searchable, exportable, yours to keep.

  • Get release alerts

A new beer that matches your profile drops at your favorite brewery. You hear about it first, not last.

  • Earn rewards

Points for purchases, more points for ratings, redeemable at the bar via your participating brewery.

  • Discover new breweries

Travel? Visit a Barley brewery you've never been to and your taste profile is already there.

  • Chat anytime

Ask Barley what to drink, why it picked something, or what's good at the brewery you're walking into.

The Beer Taste Genome

How Barley actually picks

Every beer Barley sees gets a structured profile across roughly 30 dimensions — style, hop bill, bitterness, sweetness, body, freshness window, food pairings. Think Music Genome Project, for craft beer.

  • Personal taste match. How well the beer fits what you’ve told Barley you like, plus what you’ve actually rated highly.
  • Similar-customer match. Customers with overlapping taste have rated this beer well — collaborative filtering, scoped per brewery.
  • Freshness boost. A hazy IPA released yesterday gets a lift. A 60-day-old beer doesn’t. Beer is perishable; Barley treats it that way.
  • Discovery.A small bonus for beers you haven’t tried but should. The “safely adventurous” pick.
  • Repetition penalty. Slight ding for beers you had recently — bartenders don’t keep pushing the same pour, neither does Barley.

Your taste profile is yours.

Three things Barley does not do.

  • Never sells your data

No advertisers. No data brokers. The breweries you visit are the only third parties, and only for the purpose of recommending and rewarding you.

  • Never shares cross-brewery

Your taste profile is yours. The brewery you're at sees what you bought there, not your full history at every other brewery.

  • Never traps you in

One-tap opt-out at any time. Export your full taste profile, ratings, and visit history whenever you want.
