Square POS + Brewery CRM — Loyalty Built for Craft Breweries

Connect Barley to Square in under five minutes. Barley maps your menu’s flavor DNA, builds a taste profile for every customer who engages, turns each new release into a segmented alert, and makes every visit a loyalty reward — without replacing your POS, retraining your staff, or adding hardware.

Why connect Barley to Square

Square already has your menu and your customer list. Barley maps the menu’s flavor DNA and, as customers engage, builds a customer-by-customer taste graph and a loyalty program that finally moves the needle on repeat visits.

  • Taste profiles from engagement

As customers rate beers, chat with Barley, and claim orders, Barley learns what each one loves — by style, ABV, hop profile, and time of day — and uses that to recommend what to pour next.

  • Segmented release alerts

A new beer hits the tap, Barley pings only the customers whose taste profile says they'll love it. No mass blasts.

  • Loyalty without leaving Square

Customers redeem rewards in your existing Square checkout. Your bartenders don't learn a new POS. Your back of house doesn't change.

  • Multi-location aware

A brewery with a taproom on Square for Restaurants and a bottle shop on Square POS sees one unified customer view, scoped per location for analytics.

  • Real-time analytics

Top styles, repeat-visit cohorts, segment-level conversion, beer ROI by campaign — all sourced from your live Square data.

  • Read-only by default

Barley reads from Square. Writebacks (loyalty redemptions, opted-in customer profile updates) are explicit and auditable.

How the Square integration works

Six steps. OAuth and locations take five minutes. The beer mapping wizard usually takes under twenty. Backfill, opt-in, and the live model all run in the background once you’re connected.

  1. 1

    OAuth into Square

Click connect; Square's standard OAuth screen lists exactly which scopes Barley reads (Orders, Catalog, Customers — read; Loyalty — read/write). You approve, you're done.

  2. 2

    Pick locations

Multi-location accounts: choose which Square locations Barley should track. You can add or remove locations later from the Barley dashboard.

  3. 3

    Beer mapping wizard

POS item names are messy ('HAZY IPA 16OZ', 'haze 16', 'Cloudburst Hazy'). Barley's setup wizard finds your beers, asks you to confirm style, ABV, IBU, hop bill, and freshness window — and from then on, every transaction lands in the right spot in the Beer Taste Genome. Most breweries finish the wizard in under 20 minutes for a 30-tap list.

  4. 4

    Catalog sync

Barley pulls in your full Square catalog and maps every beer's flavor DNA into the Beer Taste Genome. Runs in the background, usually done within an hour — your menu is scored and ready before a single customer opts in.

  5. 5

    Customer opt-in

Existing customers opt in to Barley's messaging and recommendations via a QR code in your taproom, a link on your website, or your existing email list. Opt-in is explicit and reversible at any time.

  6. 6

    Barley runs

From here on, every customer interaction — ratings, chats, order claims, check-ins — sharpens the taste graph in real time. New releases trigger segmented alerts. Loyalty redemptions flow back into Square. The dashboard updates live.

Barley vs. Square Loyalty

Square Loyalty is a points-and-rewards engine. Barley is a customer-intelligence platform that happens to include loyalty. They solve different problems and run side-by-side without conflict.
